What is a game?
The question is really intense and complicated because people have a different definitions of what game is. A person might say a math game is not a game and another might say it is so what is a game? The preferred definition of what a game is in this first article I read What is a game Anyway? was "a play activity with rules that involve conflicts" but from what I have learned in that article it's much deeper than that. the article talks about the importance of using "critical vocabulary" to discuss about what game is and "critical" not meaning we are trying to find a fault with a game but to analyse and consider how everything fits together both the good and the bad
some the definitions of what a game is from different
resources have some common elements if not all. These elements allow us to
discuss about what a game is. Some of the elements mentioned include games
are an activity, games have rules, games have conflict, games have goals, games
involve decision making, games are artificial they safe
because they are outside ordinary life and games have no
material gain. If anyone try to come up with a definition of what a game
is it will likely be imperfect as well, normally games use problems with
definitions.
I was able to make a that functional and that can be played in just few minutes following an exercise in the article. This exercise made me realize it take just one simple Idea to start.
The game I made
Game objective
- The objective of the game is to win the race by collecting no more than 20 points, Each time a player collects more than 20 points the game will restart for them and the other play will continue playing
Rules
- collect 20 points
- once you have 20 points you can not collect no more, Instead jump over numbers rather than collecting them in other words avoid touching the numbers on your way
- the game starts on the count of 1, 2, 3, and GO!
- The game ends when the winner reaches at the "WELL-DONE" zone and winner will be announced

Hey Abdi,
ReplyDeleteIt was an interesting read on your thoughts about game design and how you personally defined what a game is to you. The game that you created also shows that anyone can make a game no matter how simple it is and that can be really inspiring for some. I feel that you understand intricacies of game elements and I can't wait to see the game that you make for this module!
Hi Abdi! It's really awesome how you created your own simple game, it made your blog 1000 times more fun to read. I can't wait to see what your game project will turn out. I feel like anyone can make a game into anything. You see people making real life games such as football, basketball etc into actual online games which you can play which I find bizarre.
