Games MDA

Simple understanding of the MDA approach

(MDA) standing for Mechanics, Dynamics, and Aesthetics is a methodology that is believed to fully clarify and strengthen the usual process of developers, scholar's and game researcher's. This methodology is simplifies the designer's process to study, analyze and  design in a broad class of game designs and game artifacts.

I learned about the different perspectives designers and player's have , both are equally Important in their way and being aware of both perspectives allows us to notice how small changes in layer can cascade into other's.

The article discussed (MDA) frame work individually as follow's

"Mechanics describes the particular components of the game, at the level of data representation and algorithms.

Dynamics describes the run-time behavior of the mechanics acting on player inputs and each othersí outputs over time.

Aesthetics describes the desirable emotional responses evoked in the player, when she interacts with the game system".

The article suggests it's important understand and keep in mind games are more like artifacts than media meaning  "the content of a game is its behavior and not the media that streams out of it towards the player" which I find very interesting because I have never thought of it this way.

after reading I understand this methodology and how it's used not only by designer's but also scholar's and researcher's due to the effectiveness of this methodology.

after the video and my readings I fully acknowledge MDA is what makes a game, this methodology mainly focuses on mechanics and it might be ideal approach for some games but it's Important for computer and videos games.
